Scotland - Village of Portree Isle of Skye

 June 25, 2024

A 'Must See' - Inga find's her name on the marquee, How Sweet!

We descended from our climb to Storr's Thumb, back at base camp our party felt it was time for lunch. The quaint town Portree, yet the largest on the Isle of Skye, would be a fine place to get some sustenance.

Portree has a harbor, plenty of picturesque brightly painted buildings and was the last place Bonnie Prince Charlie hid out in Scotland before slipping away on a French ship after his campaign to retake the English throne ended in military disater at the Battle of Culloden in 1746. Portree is also has a little Mexican restaurant, why not?

We duck in out of the gray, but pleasant and dry skies for some Oaxacan hot chocolate and a view across the harbor.

We find some opportunity for window shopping and retail adventures along the street. Inga and her mother consider a variety of Scottish tartan items. Grant finds a bottle of Balvenie scotch suitable for an evening toast once we return to our B&B. Some shortbread is acquired to pair with the scotch and everyone has to rejoice as we pick out some candies and bonbons in Inga's Sweet Treats.
