Scotland - Tir Alainn B&B on the Isle of Skye

 June 25, 2024

Our view of the Isle of Skye from our B&B

I guess that when it comes down to it, we have our daughter-in-law, Kaileen, to thank for breaking us out of another summer in Texas and getting us to Scotland. No doubt, we must thank Kaileen for mixing in the idea of visiting the Isle of Skye in the Western Isles as long as we were visiting Scotland. What a wonderful idea!

It was but a few hours drive from Inverness on the Firth of Moray on Scotland's east coast, across glen, muir, loch and up and over highland slope to cross the bridge over onto the Isle of Skye in the Inner Sea of the Atlantic off Scotland's west coast. Our destination was Tir Alainn, a Bed and Breakfast run by Ron and Pam with a view of the sea from our window.

The morning scene one we open our curtains at Tir Alainn B&B

Before we Suneson Five launched into the countryside for sightseeing adventures, we were fed on a scrumptious breakfast (a real Bed & Breakfast), delightful in all of our morning dining options, but I believe the consensus was that our hostess' scrambled eggs with alder-smoked salmon was the one of the finest breakfasts to be had.

Shortly after our late afternoon arrival, we took our host's suggestion and motored into Broadford for a seafood dinner. The debate was whether mussels were truly to be considered edible seafood - Sue's Cook Family upbringing argued otherwise, so I ate and enjoyed her share of steamed mussels.

Ron, our host, is a connoisseur of Scotch, and when asked he suggested that we most likely would enjoy the product of the Balvenie distillery. Recommendation accepted. Grant purchased a bottle of Scotch and we also acquired some shortbread toward the end of our long, sightseeing day on the isle. We kicked off our shoes, borrowed a few whisky glasses from our host and enjoyed a civilized sip or two as the sun set into the sea around 11 PM. As consummate hostess, Pam came into the room and told us, "Ron believes whisky is enjoyed all the more with a bit of chocolate," and then handed us a few pieces of chocolate. What a fine day.

Tir Alainn gets my 5-Star review rating.

Same for the Isle of Skye.
