Scotland - Kilted Cliffs, Isle of Skye

Kilted Cliffs
Columnar basalt on Isle of Skye's western coast

A quick hop north of Portree after lunch brings us to another site of geologic and scenic interest, the Kilted Cliffs, so named because of the columnar jointing in the Cretaceous basalt flows resembles the pleats in a Scotsman's kilt.

It is another great opportunity to for the geologist parents to inspire Inga and Grant to the wonders of rocks, volcanism and all thing geological.

Grant gets a quick lecture on geological points of interest. We do this to our kids every chance we get.
Everybody ends up disappointed every time.

It is another failed attempt. When will we ever learn?
