Post-Grad Non-Studies

Inga got her Master's Degree, a diploma and a salmon pink hood to signify her as a Master in Public Health. Years of hard work done almost exclusively in isolation inside her apartment 'attending' classes over the internet using the now commonplace magic that is video conferencing. Viola!

Time for decompression and a nice break from it all. With a toss of her mortarboard cap into the air, Inga was on her way to post-graduate non-studies and away from academia.

But on her way to where? The answer lies four hours north, straight up I-5 in Arlington, Washington.

All hands on deck at Lake Ketchum cabin

The answer to her post graduate non-studies is a couple of days R&R in a spacious Airbnb cabin on Lake Ketchum (sounds like as good place to go fishing, right?) with boyfriend Sean and her parents. Part of the attraction is to check on and tour the progress of the new family home being built by her dad on Pilchuck Creek. I foresee future Thanksgivings and many family gatherings at The Pilchuck once it is finally completed.

The isolated cabin on a small lake was a homey setting for launching day trips to walk along sea cliffs above the surf, to hop among tide pools poke some squirting sea anemones and  later in the day descending on a small hike to the picturesque rocky shores of Deception Pass.

The cabin was a relaxing hang out, with a puzzle for the ladies to puzzle over while the men folk set to cooking breakfast and super for their gals. A holiday order that I find particularly satisfying and so right in spirit and abounding in pleasure.

Inga and Sue piece together a puzzle while the guys prepare super

Sean's contribution for super was a side of skillet browned and seasoned potato wedges done to perfection, I took up the task of baking 2 pounds of salmon fillets to be served with a crusty french bread and some fruit, enhanced by a bottle of Oregon Pinot noir. The local Lopez Island Creamery supplied the dessert. It was a memorable meal.

Salmon dinner together, the ideal post graduate program

At the end of the day, Inga Sean demonstrated their amateur status at the billiards table, I opted for a hot bath in the jetted tub.

And then it is breakfast time with bacon and eggs
