Christmas Delayed is Christmas Savored

Our celebrations of the Christmas Season in 2024 were savored and extended over many days.

As our prelude to the holiday (as has been documented here), Sue and I had our own little nod to Christmas for the two of us. Then, we hosted Sue's brother Bob along with Ann and their two grandkids for an early Christmas Dinner at our table. Later, we traveled 2 hours each direction to enjoy Christmas Dinner with my extended family in Olympia.

As part of my whoppin' grand plan for a special family Christmas, I'd floated the enticing idea to my wife in Texas that if you make time to fly up to Washington ahead of Christmas, I can arrange to make this an international destination Christmas celebration. I also suggested to our daughter Inga (Portland, Oregon a 4 hour drive away) that I'd like to have her and her boyfriend Sean join us in Victoria, British Columbia for a family Christmas.  Unfortunately, Sean's work schedule would not allow him to partake in this plan - but, Inga was excited to join her mother and me in Canada. Our son grant and his wife Kaileen in New York City were also invited, but for several logistical reason, they too were unable to join us.

The stipulation was that Inga wanted to spend real Christmas with Sean and his mother in Oregon and then ride the train north to join us on December 26th. With calendar details hammer out, I booked a holiday excursion to Victoria for the 27th - 29th; a post-Christmas Christmas holiday.

Inga's Amtrak Cascades arrived in Stanwood, we scooped her up from the platform and returned to The Pilchuck to find the ribeye roast ready to come out of the oven. Dishes done, it was time for Inga's big bag of gifts to be distributed in front of the festive Christmas tree. It was like Christmas all over again!

Inga gives her dad an academic book published by my Grandfather, Coit Suneson.

Mama Sue is pleased with an extensive cheese cookbook

The New Year jigsaw puzzle tradition will continue in 2025

Tomorrow we rise early, catch the first of two ferries and we make our way to Canada for a bit of holiday fun.
